View of the Charter Oak, Hartford.
The Wadsworth Atheneum
Brownell, Charles De Wolf, 1822-1909 (Creator)
The painting is in its original frame, a wooden frame carved from the Charter Oak. The Charter Oak, located on Charter Oak Avenue, supposedly served as the hiding place of Connecticut's Royal Charter in 1689 when Governor Edmund Andros was trying to revoke it.
